Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon Frequently Asked QuestionsThere's some questions that always come up, so here's the answers: Is there a final episode of the Dungeons & Dragons animated series where the kids go home? No. A lot of people swear they saw a final episode, but it's not true. In several episodes, they get very, very close. In the episode The Box they actually make it back to the amusement park on Earth, but Venger follows them and they are forced to go back. The series was cancelled before an actual final episode was made. Michael Reaves had written a script called "Requiem" which is sort-of a lost final episode. You can read the script online. The episode doesn't send the kids home, but does bring the series full-circle and answers some major questions. Gary Gygax has spoken about plans to change D&D for a 4th season to make it more for older kids/teens, and dropping Bobby and Uni, who he didn't seem very fond of, and making the kids more self-reliant. Requiem served as a lead-in for this. Is there an episode where the kids arrive in the Realm? Again, people swear up and down that they vividly remember an episode that explains how the kids got to the Realm. However, the entire story is explained in the first season main title (the intro they show at the beginning of every episode). Bobby shouts, "Hey look, it's the Dungeons & Dragons ride". They all jump on, everything goes all crazy, they arrive in the Realm, Uni runs up to them, Tiamat attacks, Dungeon Master gives them their weapons and explains briefly who he is and where they are. That's the whole story in a nutshell. There is no longer episode. The actual first episode (the so-called "pilot") is Night of No Tomorrow (the episode with Merlin), which was written by Mark Evanier as an example to CBS of what they show would be like. Presumably this is one of the kids' first adventures in the Realm. When will the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon be released on DVD? The complete series has been released on DVD in Europe. You can play these DVDs in multi-regional DVD players, and many DVD-ROM will also allow you to adjust the region. You can also "hack" many Region 1 DVD players to play DVDs from other regions (just Google DVD region free hacks) The only real noticeable difference for North Americans with European Region 2 DVDs is that the audio is pitched up slightly. As for a US release, rumor has it that a Dungeons & Dragons cartoon DVD is in the works and some of the creators have been interviewed for bonus features, but no date has been set. Also, there are a number of illegal bootlegs out there of the European released Complete Series. Don't purchase these. Hopefully the sales for an official release will be high enough that it will show the demand and large fan base for the series. Saving a few bucks purchasing illegal bootlegs of the show doesn't accomplish this and hurts the sales for the DVD when it is really released. How old are the kids? The only one we know an exact age for is Bobby, who turned 10 in "Servant of Evil". After that, it's anyone's guess. My personal feeling is that Sheila and Presto are about 13 and Eric, Hank and Diana are about 15 or 16. Have more questions? Email:dungeonsdragons@80sanimation.com |
